Do you suspect or have osteoporosis? Bone is living tissue that is constantly in motion and consists mainly of calcium. Bones are far more than a frame from which the rest of the human body is hung: bone tissue is renewed time and again.
Help with osteoporosis in Geldermalsen
Our bones work for us every day of our lives. They carry out tasks that are vital to how the body functions, such as producing blood and storing nutrients. The bones themselves are continually restructured.
Renewing bone tissue means replacing old cells with new cells. It is a kind of maintenance programme that keeps the skeleton strong. This maintenance process is directed by the central nervous system.
Bones as storage for minerals
Among other things, bones serve as storage for calcium and other minerals. If the mineral level in the bloodstream falls below a certain point, the body draws these minerals from the bones. If this happens without replacement being produced, it has a strongly negative effect on the strength of the bones. This is called bone loss and reduces bone mass.
Research shows that bones weaken and can break more easily once bone density falls below a certain level. This level is called the fracture threshold. When bone density falls below that fracture threshold, we speak of osteoporosis. We do not treat osteoporosis itself, but we can help you move more safely and comfortably alongside the care of your GP or specialist. Not sure whether chiropractic is right for you?
